It's generally my philosophy to consume a little treat each day, typically in the form of a lovely little cake. Well, not so much a philosophy as a need. Uh! To fulfill this, I recommend a wee place named 'Primrose Bakery'.

Located in Primrose Hill and Covent Garden, this cupcake parading pastel palace for princesses supplies not only their cafes, but Selfridges food hall, Fortnum and Mason and Libertys.

Popping into the Covent Garden store, I tucked into the mini cupcakes, washed down with a hot English Breakfast tea. What a perfect afternoon, sitting in their comfortable booth style seating, my table adorned with delightful tea roses surrounded by shopping bags. It's the perfect stop off point after retailing your boots off.

And don't let the nasty economic downturn put you off this very feminine afternoon tea option- with their mini cupcakes priced from £1.15 for a mini and £1.75 for a normal sized cupcake, it is an affordable necessity.

Tres beau.

The soft-hearted romance that is the French label A.P.C, gives me confidence that simplicity for the girl who loves graphic design, foreign films and vintage wallpapers, can be done.

Despite the majority of the price tags, style this simple cannot come at a price. You can layer on the coolness and evoke the inner NYC photographer who rides her bike around the East Village, whilst wearing her favourite bowler hat and sipping her flat white.

Try this dress on for size.

Oh the delight. I want this dress. Maybe then I'll post my photographs, cause only then will I feel like an artiste. In my artist dress. In my A.P.C artist dress. Voila.

UPDATE: It appears this link does not go straight to the said garment. Know that I am referring to the 'Painter Dress', which is the first look in the second row, from the Spring 09 collection.

La Bayadère

I had a date with the Royal Ballet last night, to see La Bayadère.

A love triangle mixed with murder and vengeful judgement by the gods, La Bayadère was set amongst sophisticated mis en scene and laced with gorgeous costumes that took my breath away.

Although not the most polished performance I have seen, the entirety of the performance made me come out giddy with excitement that I was in London and this was at my disposal.

Plus, I wore my new Whistles silk 3/4 skirt with tulle underlay- on sale from 125 quid (my Aussie keyboard does not have the pound sign!) down to 35 quid. I love a bargain, especially when it is as beautiful as this item.

Now, as a lady of leisure I must go and peruse the new Time Out magazine that the postie has kindly just delivered- where to next?

To be well read, is to read this:

Do you find books or do books find you, I ponder?

Interesting question you say Bloggy, go on.

Thank you, I shall.

It goes like this: As I stumbled in to one of my favourite Sydney bookstores, a title hit my like a proverbial pull on the pigtails. This is what I saw-

Don't we all, you say? Is there enough of them to go around, you ask? Now now, to know the answers to these questions and others (such as, how can you make them as passionate for you as they are for HTML) all you have to do is get your mitts on this baby. It's a wise investment- after all, geeks rule the world.

I Love Geeks: The Official Handbook by Carrie Tucker. Available at respectable bookstores.

Things I am currently enjoying:

- The Charles Anastase interview in Jan-Feb 09 issue of RUSSH mag.

"My aesthetic is really just feminine at its core, and that is the challenge for me...I just can't bear the gay vision. I don't want to create clothing for girls through a gay man's eyes, I want to make clothing that girls want to wear- I am obsessed with women."

- 'Revolutionary Road'
Ok, so you're thinking why the hell would you see a Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet film, after 'Titanic' was clearly puffed-up-en-masse-terrible?

Here's why- cause you can feel the performances through the screen. Take the Golden Globe Award committees word for it, if you don't take mine.

Kate Winslet plays a frustrated 50s housewife, aching to express herself through the role society has forced her to play. Leonardo plays her husband, seemingly driven to freedom through is he and at what cost? Based on the novel by Richard Yates, 'Revolutionary Road' opens January 22nd across Australia.

Beautiful and highly relevant to everyone who feels juxtaposed to what they are supposed to be, and what they want to be.

- The new Gus Van Sant film, 'Milk'.

Starring Sean Penn, the beautiful Emile Hirsch and James Franco, it traces the rise of gay campaigner and politician Harvey Milk through 1970s San Francisco. Beautiful, tragic, a must see.

Opens in Australia on the 29th Jan 2009.

- My foof i-touch cover, in Japanese cotton. So japanesey :)

Order from the website and they will ship anywhere in the world! Unfortunately, they only do Apple products but you'll still love the foof's.

- Dermalogica Age Smart MultiVitamin Thermofoliant. Long, fancy name = sophisticated exfoliant. $85, nationally.

- Rice milk in my tea :)

New Year = New beginnings?

I'm not the sort of gal to make resolutions. I think that if you wish to change something or improve upon a facet in your life, why wait until Jan 1st? Seize that thought and run with it; grab the iron will it took to muster up the adjustment and work on it, today.

Having said that, I do enjoy the possibilities of the new year. I enjoy people's cheer, the Summer heat, the holidays, the stuffing ourselves silly that perhaps make people momentarily optimistic. Being surrounded by that makes one naturally ponder infinite wonders. Afterall, where are we without our dreams?

I'm 7 days away from my dream, which has been almost 1.5 years in the planning.

I'll be landing at Heathrow airport, London next Thursday. I have lived in London previously, came back to Australia due to the expiry of my visa (and my sister's wedding) and have been trying to get back ever since.

After much sacrifice, sweat and tears, it all came together after so much anxiety (let me tell you). I'm just so excited to go to the city that makes me feel ALIVE, makes me feel like I can do anything, go anywhere and be myself. I have constructed a Google map of all my favourite places, plus new places I will check out. No doubt I will write about these in the upcoming posts.

So London my darling, grimey, old, fascinating bond of a city, I'll be seeing you soon.

What have you got for me this time? I shall await your suprises.
