Vintage the Denver way

An unfortunate name, though not an unfortunate Etsy store is this little beauty.

Coined 'Thrush', she hails from Colorado to sell cute vintage clothing to all. Unlike ebay, you don't have to compete for her wares- just choose (this is difficult, given the 16 pages of wares), couple of clicks, pay and it's yours!

Peruse now!

Fridayesque

I've been stumbling down memory lane and have perused some past fashion shots that j'adore.

And sharing is caring.

VOGUE Italia/Dec 2007/Steven Miesel

VOGUE Russia/Natalia Vodianova/March 2008

NUMERO 87/Lily Bird/Greg Kadel

VOGUE France/Hedi Slimane/April 2008

Of course, I had to limit myself at 4 otherwise who knows when I would have stopped. It's Friday afterall, places to go, people to see. Including a trip to the V&A tonight to see 'Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones'. Perhaps I will pick up a little something, such as this cute as a piglet Alice hair band.

Donna Hay

And to think I once lived right around the corner from this soon-to-be delightful shoppe.

Oh Donna, you're right up there with Oprah.

We ♥ Grafiks

There are those among us who walk through this world with blinkers over our eyes, never seeing the creations that make up the cities and towns we live in.

Then, there are the Grafik's.

The Grafik's are those that see the world in font and style. They don't see a tree, they see a photograph where they can photoshop a bird in a branch, and make the Winter branches full of Spring foliage. They identify objects in angles and see the possibilities of etching. Sometimes they may talk funny to you and I, but really they are talking code where only fellow Grafik's can understand thereby omitting you from their lunch table.

Actually to be honest, all the Grafik's I know are laid back layabouts who use their occupations to earn money for their natural illustrative talents and to look a smidge cool. I wish I were them.

But I'm not, I have no creative talent except to point out what I admire and love, but that don't pay the bills. Another thing that don't pay the bills though may just make you feel like the Fonz of graphics is simply to read GRAFIK magazine.

That's right, roll up roll up and read it my friends. Firstly, you'll need to wait til it actually comes out mind, though if you simply can't wait and want to wrap your peeps around a preview, view it here.

Attract what you put out

When I think about the Laws of Attraction, I wholeheartedly believe that what comes your way, you are responsible for. I'm not referring to say being run over in the street or your house being burgled, I'm referring to the attitudes that attract your circumstances.

When a person has a positive attitude, to me they radiate. Just as in when a person has a negative attitude, it's unattractive, sour, what possible good could come their way? The Laws work in a way that in fact your attitude to life becomes a metaphorical magnet towards the things you desire in life.

Birds of a feather flock together
Like attracts like
Whatever you want wants you
What you sow, you reap
What you put out you get back
What comes around goes around

I believe it is through the energy towards things that we want in life, we can achieve. Affirmations, ie, reminding us that we can do or have a certain thing, positive thinking they all help in receiving what we truly want. Not looking towards others to change our path, making excuses as to why we don't have this or that, instead working out what is missing from our lives and concentrating on attracting that.

"When you take hold of that concept and start to act on it, then you begin to see how the energy in your life moves toward a new, positive, success-oriented direction. Energy and reality are one.
Imagine what you can achieve if you convert your worn out, negative thinking to positive thinking. Suddenly you attract a different type of energy. The energy that surrounds you is full of promise and you’re ready to receive it.

You discover the real meaning of possibility thinking because you’re living in the flow of positive energy where anything is possible, even predictable, when you apply the Law of Attraction to your life." Richard Ingersoll, January 15, 2009, Laws of Attraction Membership Library

Tea time

I love a cup of tea, it's almost medicinal.

Perhaps it stems back to when I was a child and held tea parties with 'pink dolly' in attendance or the simple fact that when teamed with a biscuit, is pure afternoon delight.

This cute knitted teacup cozy is the perfect accompaniment to my English Breakfast. I'm no knitter, so for those who are equally as knit-challenged proceed straight to KnitStorm.

Just so damn cute.

Resign

Finally Dinosaur Designs no longer have a monopoly on the decorative resin industry.

An Australian living in Arizona is selling her wares via Etsy, for our wearable pleasure. Prices are very reasonable and postage costs are even more so.

Thoughts?

I love Sophia's body of work, including this commercial she has done for Dior...except for the last frame. Your thoughts?

Things I am looking forward to...

- Reading my second Richard Yates novel, Revolutionary Road. The film spoke my language though apparently the novel goes above and beyond internalising monologues. Perfect to sink one's teeth into.

- Talking to my sister and mother via Skype. I haven't spoken to either in a few weeks and miss their voices. Plus it would be nice to request a 'care package', consisting of cherry ripes, mint choc biscuits and red frogs.

- Baking delicious vanilla cupcakes this week in which someone will probably pass off as his own to his colleagues.

- Planning a trip to Amsterdam to visit the lovely Margriet.

- Having my own space when my lady who lunches routine has come to an end. Somewhere where smelly boys are not so smelly and lovely baking smells replace funky sock smells.

So far away, it's her birthday

It's my dear friends 27th birthday today.

Even though I am in London and you are in Sydney Nom, I am thinking about you and wish your day to be as special as can be. Lots of lovely hugs for your day my sweet.

Love Tx

Hey Hey, My My

I missed out on Neil Young in Sydney. I am not going to let it happen again.

Fleet Foxes are my chocolate icing on the top of a very light vanilla cupcake.

Cannot wait til Summer!

Take me South

Oh to be in Austin, Texas right this minute.

South by Southwest 2009 begins today and runs until the 22nd March, meaning that the creative college town is overrun with musicians from every country, playing their instruments on their streets and in their many bars. Featuring over 1800 acts, it's all about wandering around and listening to the music some known, most unknown.

With the reported surge of crowds occupying the fine city, it seems the festival is going from strength to strength and thumbs its rock n' roll finger at the recession.

Frock Me!

I love a good vintage find. When I spot it and feel the precise tailoring, the proportions, the fabric, I think this is something I'd never find anywhere on a high st. It's a shame that clothing is not made with care anymore, it's seems it's just cheaply produced on a tight time frame for the consumers to smile at the cash register. That's not how it once was.

Thank goodness for Frock Me's vintage fashion fair!

Held this Sunday 22nd March, it's favoured by folk and fabulous alike so much so, that the website actually begs you to leave the spotted celebrity alone if you do see them!

Be sure to grab some delightful sandwiches and cake whilst you're there- it'll further the fantasy of living in the past.

Admission £4 (students with ID - £2.00, accompanied children under 16 - free)

Chelsea Town Hall, King's Road, Chelsea, London SW3 5EE

Spring Fling

It's beautiful to see the seasons truly come alive.

In Sydney where I hail, the distinctive changes between the seasons are not so prominent. Flowers bloom in Autumn, rain falls heavily in Summer, sun shines brightly in Winter.

I now reside in London and love nothing more than seeing all the Spring blooms come out to play. Blossoms make my nose tickle, daffodils make my eyes sparkle and the bulbs remind me of my nana.

Know your rights to good coffee

Yesterday, I had a delightful lunch with some delightful friends over in EC1.

As the conversation turned to coffee, I was amused to hear of English gent one commenting favourably towards the distinguishably disgusting tastes of a very large coffee chain (initials SB).

Having just read this lovely post http://scramblingeggs.blogspot.com/ and having the same gripes myself, I am still perplexed as to how some people still except the watery tastes topped with over frothed milk and think it is suitable? I just don't understand- there are better alternatives!!

So now thanks to the aforementioned blogger, I have forwarded my friend some informative little tidbits of where to source out delicious, true coffee lovingly made by baristas with heart. I suggest those who think chain coffee is fine, please please please read the above and get informed. You don't have to pay miserable prices for what is essentially s_it.

On a side note, I was mildly disappointed not to have had my camera out as I strolled back to Waterloo station seeing things that many people would take for granted. I comforted myself with the thought that I will be back, camera in tow.

Story of my life

Rad t-shirts available here.

Yay for good books!

I was in a large bookstore yesterday, and as always I was overwhelmed with choice. As I wandered around perusing title after title, patience wained and I just wanted to find a tube book already!

Then BAM, it happened. Actually the BAM lasted about 30 minutes of wandering and neck turning and only then did I find The Easter Parade, by the darling Richard Yates. Having loved loved loved Revolutionary Road, I'm was so happy this book jumped out at me. Without even chasing it, without even seeing the author, I read the synopsis and then with every confidence, knew I had to buy it.

I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of green tea (I do tend to go for the serious, meloncholy types) though it is well written, concise, crisp, to the point and neat. Yes, it's a tidy read.

Thank goodness I've broken the bad book cycle.
